Twelve year old Anga Freedom wants more than anything to meet her little sister, Monroe. But it isn't meant to be. Anga's mother, Dylan, suffers a miscarriage, and the entire family is plunged into grief. Anga tries to work through her feelings about the loss by writing. Through diary enteries and poetry, she longs for the sister she never got to know and worries about her mother. Monroe's loss isn't the only tragedy the family faces. Shortly afterward, Anga's mother is diagnosed with oral cancer, and Anga moves in with her grandmother. As she shares her frustrations about her mother's absence and her hopes for Dylan's recovery. Anga begins to discover uncomfortable truths about the world and realizes the importance of cherishing the moments that brought her family together.
